SINGAPORE : Singapore's unemployment rate was unchanged at 2.6 percent in the first quarter after 33,400 jobs were created in the January-March period, the Ministry of Manpower said Friday.
Job creation in the first quarter was nearly double the increase of 17,800 jobs a year earlier and slightly lower than 35,300 jobs created in the fourth quarter of 2005.
Advance estimates released earlier by the government showed the economy growing at an annualised, seasonally adjusted of 1.2 percent in the first quarter from the fourth quarter last year.
This followed growth of 12.5 percent in the previous quarter. - CNA/ch
