The number of foreigners employed in Singapore rose by 144,500 in 2007, a record amount, according to new data from the Ministry of Manpower.
Local employment also grew by 90,400, taking the country's total number of new jobs created to 244,900, an increase of 9.4 per cent, Chinaview.cn reports.
At the end of last year, foreign-born workers accounted for 33 per cent of the 2.73 million people employed in Singapore.
Meanwhile, the number of workers made redundant in 2007 fell by 39 per cent to a 14-year low of 7,675, with two-thirds of those laid off in the private sector finding new employment within six months.
Productivity reduced by 0.9 per cent over the 12 months leading up to December 31st, continuing a slow downward trend that has been taking place since 2005.
However, the country's economic growth remains robust, reaching 7.7 per cent last year, which has been fuelling the jobs growth.
The Singaporean dollar hit an all-time high of 1.3785 to the US dollar today.
